ORS head stylist Betito Ebengo and more hair experts gives us tips on how to save our tresses.
Heat FrizzTrim it! This will usually mean around the tips, where hair is more likely to be damaged. Give your tresses a break, stop using any heat styling tools until your hair’s health is restored.
Split EndsThere are formulas you may want to try before cutting. A deep conditioning, split finishing hair mask can help strengthen the hair shaft and reduce damage.
Colour damageOpt for fresh approaches, such as ammonia-free or semi-permanent formulas when you do colour again. “By virtue of their name, semi-permanent colours last only until your next shampoo and, since they are completely chemical-free, these colours are also safe to use on relaxed hair,” says Lisa Marie, hair expert for US-based lifestyle portal, LoveToKnow.
Weak edgesSkip wigs, braids, cornrows, and styles that suffocate your hair. “Steaming hair is one way of promoting growth as it helps with reducing breakage by boosting moisture levels. It also increases the penetration of the treatments that leads to richer, shinier, healthy hair,” says L’oreal Institute head stylist Hansen Ndabeni. He suggests using the right shampoo. There are plenty that claim to regrow hair, but some work better than others. Also, regularly apply essential oils to the hairline.
