Too tight braids, regular relaxer treatments and heavy weaves can lead to a weakening hairline and hair loss – a condition known as traction alopecia. Here’s how to protect your hairline:
- Don’t pull too tight: Opt for loose buns and pinned updo’s. Give the micro-braids a rest!
- Do massage the affected area with a natural oil mix (try castor and olive oils) a few times a week to promote growth along your hairline.
- Don’t sleep with your hair in a ponytail, bun or updo. Because of the strain caused when hair is pulled back, it is not advisable to sleep with your hair tied up. Moving in your sleep may also add strain to your hairline.
