Holiday skin pick me ups

If wine has replaced water as your drink of choice, you’re probably suffering from a beauty hangover and are in need of a few tips to shift the dullness currently haunting your face.

Read on for our face saving tips to get you through the remainder of the holidays.

Cleanse the night off

Remove every inch of the previous night’s make-up before slipping into a warm bath laced with BetterYou Magnesium Oil or epsom salts which will to replenish the body with vital minerals, and help to calm your hangover. A bath will be more relaxing than a power shower, and will open up your pores. Follow up with a rehydrating brightening mask like REN Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial mask to firm, tone, and smooth the skin with a 10 per cent vitamin C concoction that will turn your dull complexion bright.

Peep this

If your eye baggage is ready for the long-haul, slick on some Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream before you apply concealer for additional hydration and a veil of mineral pigments which will brighten the eye area. If you’re suffering from red eyes, brightening eye drops are a girl’s best friend, and can help to erase the evidence of the previous night’s shenanigans.

Prime for perfection

A combination of late nights and alcohol can leave you both dehydrated and sweaty. Thankfully there are a plethora of skin-perfecting primers that will help you cheat your way to a flawless complexion. To successfully hide the ravages of eggnog and wine, team a light base, such as a tinted moisturiser, with a smoothing primer. Charlotte Tilbury’s cult product Wonderglow will turn around tired, dull, dehydrated skin in a flash.

Lighten up

You don’t need to go all Kim Kardashian, but a little strobing/contouring will make your skin look alive, no matter what you’ve put it through. Opt for creams and balms such as RMS Living Luminizer which will hydrate the skin nicely and give you a naturally healthy glow. Avoid highlighters with too much shimmer as it can sit in dehydration lines and make skin look worse.

The eyes have it

Second to your skin, spend the most time working on your eye area to reap the most reward. After applying some cooling, brightening eye drops, curl lashes to open up your eyes. Next apply a flesh toned eyeliner like Charlotte Tilbury Rock 'N' Kohl Eye Cheat to the inner rims of the eyes to widen and brighten. If you’re applying eyeshadow, go for a neutral palette like Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette, which is flattering for both evening and the morning after.

Open up the eyes with a bit of highlighter under the brow, while a slick of liner along the top lash line can really help to extend the lashline. Finish with lots of mascara, and pop on those heels for another whirl around the dancefloor!
