Here’s what he had to say: “In addition to making sure your hair and scalp are always clean, we cannot overlook the importance of driving back moisture into the hair after stripping it of its natural oils with shampoo,” says Maphoto. Braids, weaves and wigs can be washed once a week. The general concern is how much product you use on the hair. Ladies who straighten their hair often use greasy products such as hair foods and oil moisturisers, which tend to clog pores. Ideally washing the hair once a week is acceptable. However, we recommend once every two weeks because the hair has been chemically manipulated and is not strong enough. Ladies with natural hair are advised to alternate between the usuala shampoo and condition and a “co-wash”, which is just a condition and rinse. This can be done once a week. Together with your daily moisturising routine, this will give hair the hydration it needs. Also implement a twice-a-day moisturising routine.
