How to master the graphic eyeliner look

accreditation

If you’re feeling brave, there’s plenty of bold eyeliner looks you can go for other than the classic cat-eye without going over the top. Kenzo did it back in 2014 on its fall catwalk and nearly three years on the trend has only grown in popularity.

Here are a few suggestions and a small guide on how to create them.

Open-edged eyes

This one is a good place to start for beginners as it’s more subtle than some other looks. Using your product and tool of choice (we recommend a felt option or stiff pointed brush), guide the liner over the upper lash line and extend slightly when you reach the corner. Do the same on the bottom, running the lower line symmetrical to the top. This finish may not be obvious front on but wait for the reactions you’ll get when you turn to the side!

Elongated lashes

A little more daring, this technique gives a retro feel and requires a very sturdy feel. Again, go in with a thin line on your lid and take this out slightly to give a flick. Apply a good coating of mascara to your upper lashes and a subtle layer to the lower, then reach back for your tool. Starting at the outer corner, create an elongated lash moving slightly outward using the liner and make your way inwards slightly until you’re about a quarter of the way closer to your inner corner. Think Twiggy when giving this finish a whirl!

Block colour

This is a bright approach perfect for when the sun is out. It’s a bold choice though, especially if you’re opting for a bright colour, so test at home before going out with it! Pick a bright liquid liner of your choice and get creative by applying a thick, neat line to your upper lid. Create a sharp corner at the outer edge to give definition and make it graphically great!
