Yamikani Banda, whom her fans call Lady Zamar, started singing at the tender age of six, and looked up to the likes of Tracy Chapman at the age of three.
Popular for producing hit songs like Collide, My Baby, and Love Is Blind”, it’s no surprise that the Pretoria-bred singer will be sharing the stage with Tamia at her upcoming concert.
Speaking on what makes a great Lady Zamar track, the songstress said she has been intentional about making music and content that is relatable. “I am very grateful that people think that my music is great, but [my intention is] not to consistently release hit songs – I just make music that I’d love to listen to, and I’m really grateful that people like listening to it as well,” she said in a previous True Love article.
What is your all-time favourite Tamia track and why?
I love So Into You because everybody knows it (chuckles)!
Will you be performing a duo?
Unfortunately not. But, seeing as we’re performing in three cities, who knows? If the universe wants it to happen, it just might.
What are you looking forward to the most about co-headlining with Tamia?
First of all, I can’t wait to watch her in concert because I don’t get to see a lot of artists. Secondly, I’m looking forward to all the cool outfits Thula Sindi has put together for me – I just went for a fitting, and man, I’m gonna look like liquid gold! And obviously, I can’t wait to play with my band. I‘ve actually beefed up the team. Each city will have a different set-up so nothing will be the same, at all!
What would you like people to take away from your music?
I want people to take away hope. I think we live in an age where there’s a lot of negativity. I want people to concentrate on love, and to want to fall in love and to celebrate love. That’s what my music is about.
