The beginning of her careerI always wanted to get into the entertainment industry; I started my modeling career through a reality show called Diamonds in the Ruff in 2011. It was like an American Top Model in SA. It opened me to a lot of things and the real world of modeling and just doing what I love.
With G3 Models, I got to do commercials and start up in the industry. Big Brother, however, launched my career and I’m grateful for it. It definitely opened doors for me.
The story behind her nameMy dad was half-Portuguese so my twin sister and I have Portuguese names – I’m Azul and she’s Acastanho, which means blue and brown in English. This makes life difficult because everyone got our names wrong. So we just decided to use the English translations rather.
Her current venturesNow I’ve just signed to Vth Season and my career is just taking off – I’m busy with many shoots. Also I’m venturing into acting so I’m taking private classes because I never want to get into something and not be my best. I was approached by a lot of people after Big Brother but I never agreed because I wasn’t ready or able to act. Now I’ve decided I want to do it and I’m very excited about it.
On fashion and her styleFashion has always been my thing from a very young age. People seem to think I dress up every day just to take pictures and show off; I don’t go an extra mile to look nice and post on social media. This is who I am. My style is simple, classy and elegant but also affordable.
Scalo (the fashion designer) and I started working together right after Big Brother; we understand each other. He is just great.
On handling the hate and negative commentsWhen I got in the industry I knew my weak and strong points so when people comment about my accent or English, I don’t care. I do things to improve myself like read more and don’t concentrate on the hate. I have a lot of love from my true fans. I focus on the positive.
