Popularly known as Namhla on Generations: The Legacy the actress announced that she’s expanding her brand as a club DJ, going by the name: “Thuli P, Jewel of the Nile”.
You’ve ventured into being a DJ. How did this come about?I’ve always had love for music but unfortunately I can’t sing. More and more my love for it continued to grow when I attended events or was MC-ing somewhere. I’d see other DJs playing at those events and wanted the same thing. I met up with DJ Zoe (who plays with Ganyani) for lunch and spoke to her about being a DJ; she was very encouraging.
She recommended DJ Ryno to teach me and they’ve both been my mentors. At first I thought I’d learn here and there but after playing at one of DJ Zoe’s events I’ve started getting bookings.
What music will you be playing?I play commercial house music because I genuinely love its sound plus it has so much emotion behind it.
What inspired your DJ name Thuli P?I wanted to go for something that people could relate with and could remember. Jewel of the Nile has always been a hashtag that I use on social media. It brings that bare element and something to identify myself with.
Will we lose you as an actress now that you’re DJ-ing?No, not at all. I’ll still be on your screens.
