You’ve ventured into being a DJ. How did this come about?

I’ve always had love for music but unfortunately I can’t sing. More and more my love for it continued to grow when I attended events or was MC-ing somewhere. I’d see other DJs playing at those events and wanted the same thing. I met up with DJ Zoe (who plays with Ganyani) for lunch and spoke to her about being a DJ; she was very encouraging.

She recommended DJ Ryno to teach me and they’ve both been my mentors. At first I thought I’d learn here and there but after playing at one of DJ Zoe’s events I’ve started getting bookings.

What music will you be playing?

I play commercial house music because I genuinely love its sound plus it has so much emotion behind it.

What inspired your DJ name Thuli P?

I wanted to go for something that people could relate with and could remember. Jewel of the Nile has always been a hashtag that I use on social media. It brings that bare element and something to identify myself with.

Will we lose you as an actress now that you’re DJ-ing?

No, not at all. I’ll still be on your screens.
