Jaden Smith and his sister Willow were surprise winners of The Fashion Awards’ New Fashion Icons prize on Monday at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Jaden was on hand to collect the award at Britain's Fashion Oscars, wearing head-to-toe Gucci with a blue and brown striped suit and slip-on fur-lined loafers.
It's been a groundbreaking year for the 18-year-old entrepreneur and fashion inspiration - in January (16), he was named a new face of Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2016 Womenswear line, sporting a bedazzled knee-length kilt.
A longtime advocate for gender-fluid dressing, Jaden famously shared a photo of a new dress on Instagram earlier this year, captioned: "Went To TopShop To Buy Some Girl Clothes, I Mean 'Clothes.' "
Louis Vuitton director Nicolas Ghesquiere raved about Smith in January (16), stating, "(Jaden) represents a generation that has assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender. Wearing a skirt comes as naturally to him as it would to a woman who, long ago, granted herself permission to wear a man's trench or a tuxedo."
The New Fashion Icon honour is not the first award Jaden has won this year; he also received the male EMA Futures Award from the Environmental Media Association in October (16) for his Just Water venture, which packages spring water in boxes.
Jaden's sister Willow, 16, who was not at the London awards show, has also attracted plenty of attention for her fashion choices - in 2014, she told Wonderland magazine, "Flexibility with yourself and your looks shows self confidence. When we were younger... we would wear the craziest things."
Willow became a Chanel brand ambassador at the age of 15, and she told The Daily Telegraph at the Chanel autumn 2016 couture show, "It’s not every day that a 15-year-old black girl with dreads gets elected to be the Chanel ambassador."
This year she also hand-designed a T-shirt she sold as part of her MSFTS fashion line, which is available via her brother's website.
Other honourees at Britain’s highest-profile fashion event included Gigi Hadid who beat her sister Bella and Kendall Jenner to the International Model of the Year title, while Alexander McQueen was named British brand of the year, and Ralph Lauren was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award by David Beckham.
