Now she's revealing the secret to her success - seven style rules that have served her well in the years since she made her showbiz debut on TV talent show American Idol back in 2004.

Style rule number 1

Find your signature silhouette. And now that I'm in such great shape, I love to show off my fantastic hourglass figure. Now I'm able to explore more. I've found that some shapes work for every size, like a high-waisted pencil skirt.

Style rule number 2

I also like to glam up an outfit with a signature coat. I like a look that is sleek and classic, like a little black dress, but when you throw a coat over it, you're like, 'Who is that?' It creates this presence, and it's so classy and chic. Next thing you know, you're red carpet ready!

Style rule number 3

I love to wear bright colours, they make me "extremely happy". I call it a 'color party! It makes me want to go out and celebrate the day.

Style rule number 4

Rule number four involves finishing my look with accessories, especially brooches which represent that Old Hollywood vibe that I love. My son actually got me into them when he picked one out for me in Niagara Falls. Now I wear them everywhere.

Style rule number 5

Wear your mementos, and my very favourite is a necklace sporting something my kid no longer needs. I have a necklace that has my son's tooth hanging from a piece of gold. I like to personalise things. That's priceless.

Style rule number 6

I'm conscious of balance: If I've got my legs out, then there's no need for cleavage to be out. If I have cleavage out, there is no need for my legs to be out. Don't overdo it. To me, those subtleties are crucial.

Style rule number 7

Be comfortable in what you're wearing, for which I credit my stylist Micaela Erlanger.

(She) always says, 'Let me see you sit in it'. You can't sell a look if you are not completely comfortable in it. It will wear you versus you wearing it.
