Stick to your treatment

Ensure that you take your ARVs as indicated and have a health professional that you trust to get regular check-ups.

Maintain a balanced diet

A balanced diet is important. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to get vitamins and fibre as well plenty of starchy carbohydrates to give you energy. Up your intake of brown rice, potatoes, wholewheat pasta and bread. Also add protein like lean meat, fish, eggs and beans and some dairy products, like milk, yoghurt and cheese and small amounts of fats and sugars.

Exercise

Weekly exercise is good for your body and heart. and clears the mind. Activities like dancing, playing in the park with your children, walking and gardening can all help; just keep moving.

Practice safe sex

Practising safe sex is very critical. Your status shouldn’t affect intimacy with your partner. Just remember that you need to adjust your sexual behavior to stop further infection.

Live your life fully

Live your life fully. Do the things you set out to do and make the most of it. Be happy! If you want to travel the world do so, whatever is on your bucket list go out and do it. HIV can be maintained so it shouldn’t hinder your dreams. Make sure you have the support you need from family and friends.
