Without a doubt, every Thursday social media is abuzz when the reality show Uthando Nesthembu airs on Mzansi Magic.
What motivated you to be in a polygamous marriage?I’ve always had the desire of having a big family and that meant having more than one wife and lots of children so I can leave behind my legacy.
Do you ever get confused as to what the wives like? No! The manner in which I approach them will be different due to their unique personalities. When dealing with issues, you don’t want to make the other wives feel inferior to the other; hence the treatment I give them will always remain the same.
Do you intend on marrying more wives? That decision is not mine to make but my wives. I’m not going to impose that decision on them. We’ve worked really hard to be where we are right now; hence I don’t want to bring a new person into the family as that’ll require us to start from the beginning.
Would you allow your children to be in this kind of marriage? It’s up to them. I just emphasise the importance of having a big family. Polygamy isn’t for everyone; they would need to have the personality and character for it.
How has life been since the airing of your show? We’ve experienced a huge life change and we’re humbled by the love South Africa has given us. The idea was not to attract celebrity status but to contribute positively against women and children abuse. We want men and women to use our show as a point of reference with regards to polygamy.
