How has COVID-19 affected you and your family?
Like many people, it has somewhat inconvenienced me from a practical perspective; it has affected simple things like my kids going to school and the freedom to go up and down for work. We’ve also had to navigate being paranoid when going to supermarkets, and limiting those trips. We’re also being vigilant when we have flu or allergies. But, we’re trying to remain positive. We have family parties at home that we’ve also shared on social media. We’ve had a lot of fun, too. That has shown us that no matter how frustrating the situation can be, you have to be creative and positive.

What is your daily skincare, body and hair routine?
I have very sensitive skin, so I drink as much water as I can. Every morning, we now drink “the mixture of life”, made by our children’s nanny, sis Hilda. It’s a mixture of garlic, ginger, mint leaves and water, and has been amazing for mine and my daughter’s skin. I keep my hair as natural as possible; the less fragrance in the product, the better. When I want to smell good, I use a LUX soap with a strong fragrance. But, I can’t take luxurious long baths anymore since we’re home-schooling the kids.
What hygiene practices and changes have you adopted?
I’ve always been strict about good hygiene around the house, so washing our hands has always been important. I’m also a huge believer in natural foods with anti-bacterial benefits. I also add some garlic and ginger to the children’s water. We now use hand sanitiser, and disinfect our groceries, things that we wouldn’t naturally do. I’ve had to adjust to not being able to go for a jog, take walks with my daughter or watch my son riding his bicycle. But because we are homebodies, this hasn’t been too traumatic.
What life lessons have your been reminded of?
That it’s important to not value the frivolous things that don’t bring you happiness, like fake relationships. I’ve also learnt to value my home and own space. I thank God that my home is literally where the heart is. We really enjoy one another, as well as the people who matter in our lives. This experience has been humbling. It’s a reminder that God is the most powerful source and higher power that we should respect. This is also a time of reflection.
What beauty spoils do you miss?
My right-hand nails are a mess! At least my left ones are hanging in there. I did my nails before the lockdown, but they have grown out. My hair, which had a hot pink colour, has now become a faded pink/lavender shade. I miss going to the salon and getting my nails done. But, if that means people will not be dying, then I would rather stay at home. Healthcare professionals are doing so much for us in fighting COVID-19, so I can go without doing my nails and hair.
