A new beauty trend has set social media alight – and it’s quite the bold look. Known as brow carving, this method – seemingly dreamt up by make-up artist Alexa Link - involves really highlighting eyebrows to make one hell of a statement look, and it’s definitely not one for wallflowers!
It’s quite the OTT look so perhaps best saved for a party or somewhere where you know you won’t stand out like a sore thumb!
Start by taking an eye pencil, closest to the colour of your brow hairs, and very gently trace the outline of your brows, doing the whole width below from inside to the outer corner, then angling it off to bring the line above your brow - about a quarter of the way in. Keep this as close to your brow as possible for a minimal yet effective finish. Alternatively, if you have a fancy dress bash coming up, pick a shade that clashes against your skin and matches your outfit to colour coordinate!
Then, pick an eyeshadow to match your chosen pencil colour (or as close as possible) and, using a sturdy brush, soften the lines by sweeping a little of the shadow over them. Focus on leaving a clean gap between the line and brow, so just apply the shadow to the outside of the shape to keep it extremely soft and allow it to fade naturally into your natural skin.
If there’s any powder in the areas which should be clean, use a Q-tip with some make-up remover on it and run it along the brow to remove excess shadow. To give things an even brighter finish around the outside you could always add a spot of concealer or highlighter - just be careful it doesn’t draw attention away from the carving.
You also need to be sure that the brows themselves are neat and defined for this trend, as such a beauty look won’t work if the hair is straggly and untamed! Tidy things up with brow gel and give them a strong touch with an eyebrow pencil, powder or gel. You don’t have to make things too sharp though, as that’s the job of the carving.
