New Year, New Me

Year after year, we make resolutions to change something to improve ourselves.  The best New Year’s resolution that anyone could make is to live a healthier life.  Long term, exercising can add years to your life as well as reduce the risks which can lead to diseases that include obesity, cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  Living a healthier life will also help make you feel and look your best, give you more energy and help you maintain a healthy weight.

Gert Coetzee, Pharmacist and Diet pioneer, who founded The Diet Everyone Talks About, gives us some healthtips which can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Cut Down On Sugar

Sugar is enemy number one!  If you reduce your sugar intake, you may find that you have more energy, lose weight or maintain a healthy weight with ease.  Eating too much sugar can raise the level of glucose in your blood.  This leads to an increase in the risk of getting heart disease and diabetes.  Sugar contributes to weight gain because it’s often high in fat and low in other nutrients.  Sugars and refined carbs independently contribute to obesity.

Eat Low Carb

Low-carb diets are known for producing fast weight loss results without having to count calories or feeling hungry.  Being on a low-carb diet also helps reduce the risks of certain metabolic, heart disease as well as diabetes.  Other benefits include reduced acne, better digestion, fewer cravings and the reduced risk for certain types of cancer.  Vegetables are an important source of nutrients.  Most veggies are naturally low in fat and help reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower the risk of getting heart disease.

Keep Your Caffeine Levels To A Minimum

Your blood sugar can rise after you have coffee, even coffee with no calories.  Caffeine may raise blood pressure, especially in people who don’t normally consume caffeine.  People who consume beverages with caffeine often suffer from indigestion or an upset stomach.  The overuse of caffeine can cause headaches and also lead to migraines.

Drink More Water

Regular water consumption has many health benefits plus it has no fat, carbohydrates, sugar or calories.  The amount of water you drink everyday plays a very important role in maintaining a healthy body and mind.

Engaging in physical activity helps you burn calories.  Regular exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss.  It’s not always about regular trips to the gym, you can get more active throughout your day by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.  Exercising regularly helps prevent a wide range of health problems.

Add Fat Burning Foods To Your Diet

This is a natural way to lose weight.  Eating more fat-burning foods can help you drop pounds and potentially reverse diabetes.  It also reduces the risk of obesity, which has been linked to a higher risk of cancers.  Adding more fat-burning foods to your diet can also help boost your energy levels.  Apple cider, cayenne pepper, coconut oil, grapefruit and green leafy vegetables are all fat-burning foods that you can add to your diet.
