One-on-one with Nadia Nakai

Who is Nadia?

Nadia Nakai is an African girl and artist. I fell in love with hip-hop when I was 16. I'm inspired by artists like Kwesta, Cassper, Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, ASAP Rocky and Travis Scott.

How did you know music was for you?

I realised it when I started getting attention from people that were drawn to my music. I started getting booked for gigs and received positive feedback from the audience.

How do you deal with challenges of being a female MC?

I have a very strong team that supports me and my decisions. They are very protective, which helps a lot when there are people trying to take advantage of me.

What do you love most about your craft?

I love how I get to connect with people. People I probably will never meet get to hear my songs and feel good because of them.

Apart from being sexy, how else would you describe yourself?

Who do you look up to?

My mom - she raised my little brother and I and continued to be a boss while breaking barriers at work and her personal life.

What do you get up to during the day?

My day time job is being in studio – that’s where the magic happens!

Who is on your playlist?

Anatii’s new album titled Artiifact.

Do you have any hidden talents and what are they?

I'm really good at baking!

How do you relax or unwind?

I enjoy chilling with my girls watching series and eating junk food!

What can we expect from Nadia? What are you currently working on?

I just released my EP called Bragga, which is available on ITunes and Apple Music. A new music video is coming soon!
