You’re engaged – congratulations! Did you expect the proposal when it happened?

Thank you! Being married is something my man and I had spoken about a lot since we started dating, so I knew it was going to happen eventually. How he did it was a complete surprise!

What have your learnt about yourself and love since getting engaged?

I’ve learnt that in order for me to be a great partner, I need to constantly work on myself; I need to understand myself better so I can be better for him and our relationship. I’ve learnt a great deal about patience and to give another person freedom. The freedom for them to discover new passions and dreams because as much as we’re together, we still have our own aspirations as individuals. I’ve also learnt to let go of fear and allow everything to come from a place of love.

What do you love most about being in love?

I love that life becomes easier to navigate when you have a life-partner by your side. The load isn’t too heavy to carry because you’re not carrying it alone. The wonderful moments are magnified even more because you’re sharing your happiness with someone else. Love has made me worry less about things falling into place.

What advice would you give a young couple about relationships?

Enjoy each other and build a strong foundation of friendship and trust in which your relationship will be built. Work on becoming the best version of yourself so you can be a good partner. Be realistic about your expectations and be ready to face the tough times as well. Communication is vital. I also believe in complete transparency between partners. Fights are inevitable, but it’s important to make the decision that when you fight, you fight to build, not to destroy.
