The popular fashion label designers reveal what and what not to wear at this year’s Durban July.
We linked up with Quiteria and George recently for their intimate brunch in collaboration with Nescafe Gold ahead of the Vodacom Durban July to chat fashion and have a conversation about the event’s expectations. Discuss red carpet expectations for this year's theme 'The Colour of Magic' and get the celeb guest's interpretations of this theme.
Here’s what the duo had to say:
Who is your label targeted?
We design for all types and shapes of South African women. With celebs we’ve dressed, Nomuzi Mabena, Terry Pheto, Lira, Dineo Mokoetsi who the face of the brand. Weza Solange is also on our list, Nigeria’s Stephanie Coker and Toke Makinwe.
It’s the Vodacom Durban July Weekend coming up; who will you guys be styling?
We’re dressing actress, Chichi Letswalo, Sophie Ndaba, Kim Jade, Dineo Mokoetsi and boyfriend, Solo, Phat Joe.
With all these clients for just one weekend, you guys must be loaded!
Not really! We wish we were rolling in the cash!
What the dos and don’ts for the Vodacom Durban July?
Quiteria: The dos are always try to stick and stay true with who you are. Never try to something you’ve never done before. If you have a particular stylist, stick with that one person who knows your body and personality. Don’t try to look like a cabbage or carrot cake.
George: I fully agree. The don’ts are is to not overthink the theme, in most cases with the Durban July; people think it’s the Met Gala. It’s not an avant-garde event it’s a horse racing event. Keep it minimal and not try to go overboard. The theme this year is, The Colour of Magic which makes me panic a little as I feel like most people will experiment with weird colours. Chose a colour that indeed brings the magic out of you; it’s about you as a person and what makes you feel comfortable.
Often times attendees of the event get the shoes wrong too. What’s your comment on that?
We advise our clients wear a wedge or a block heel which will be comfortable and easy on the grass.
Since the theme The Colour of Magic what are the celebs you’re dressing wearing?
For both of us our favourite colour is black but we used a lot of pastel colours this year.
We’ll be showing at the Lusaka, Zambia fashion week. We’ve got the Mercedes Fashion Week too coming up and possibly Paris coming along the way.
