Remembering Marikana, four years later

SA’s  celebs commemorate the day miners were killed in Marikana on 16 August 2012

Today, we remember one of the most tragic events that happened in our country.

Four years ago, South African Police opened fire on a crowd of striking mine workers at Marikana, in the North West. The striking workers were demanding wage increases from the Lonmin platinum mine. At least 34 miners were killed that day.

Celebrities have come out in their numbers to remember this day, and to voice their views on the tragedy.
