REVIEW: A Night At African Pride Irene Country Lodge

My little sister has been stressed out by exams and me on the other side, I am always stressed out by deadlines, so we've been in need of a quick getaway. What better way to do this than to treat us to a night away at African Pride’s Irene Country Lodge, Centurion.

There was a reason behind my generosity though. I’ve seen how gorgeous and relaxing the place is. So, we drove to Centurion.

Here are 4 things that stood out for me.

From the outside, the hotel has a beautiful tranquil feel. You immediately feel like you’re out of the hustle and bustle of the big city even though you are only 35 minutes away from Johannesburg. On arrival, we were welcomed with drinks, (side note: you know you've made it in life when you get greeted by your surname at arrival.) That immediately made me feel welcome. It’s central yet quiet, which makes it a great location.

I didn’t really enjoy dinner because they served the kind of food you can cook for yourself at home, like chicken tikka, pork chops etc. I did enjoy their wine though, we had a bottle of their red house wine which was the highlight of my night. It was a cold night and the wine just made everything OK. We also had the pleasure of enjoying a huge breakfast, I am not a breakfast person but I am so glad I didn't miss this one as it was one of my highlights.

I received one of the best massages ever; a whole hour of relaxation was exactly what I needed. The stress of daily deadlines has a way of creeping in and the ladies at the spa helped with that. The spa has four treatment rooms of which 2 are double rooms, techno gym, steam room, sauna, outdoor pool, heated jacuzzi and a restaurant.

The hotel staff’s friendliness made a huge difference during our stay. The view from our room overlooking the magnificent views of the lake was definitely part of my highlight. I felt light and stress free.
