Fans went wild when Beyonce first released her Lemonade album track Sorry, which appeared to take aim at an unfaithful partner, with lyrics of the tune urging the adulterer to "call Becky with the good hair".
The R&B superstar has never explained the lyric, but so-called experts had their own ideas who 'Becky' was, with some believing it was Rachel Roy - the ex-wife of Jay Z's former business partner Damon Dash - and others targeting Ora, who until recently was signed to the rap mogul's record label Roc Nation.
Fans and critics alike scrutinised the two women's social media accounts following the release of the song for clues, as both women insisted they were not Beyonce's 'Becky'.
Now, 25-year-old Rita has opened up about the drama in a new Vanity Fair interview.
"First and foremost, Jay Z is my inspiration and one of my idols - lyrically, musically, business-wise," she says. "I still look up to him and his wife every day. Beyonce was one of my biggest idols growing up."
But Rita bought into the drama, wearing a 'Not Becky' badge to the Met Ball after-party in May (16).
"That was a present from Katy Perry," she explains. "Maybe I was the only one seen wearing it, but there were others. As for the rest of it, I'm oblivious, I'm just not the gossip queen.
"I find it incredibly rude and disrespectful to women in general (when) we get accused of something that's basically against the important part - the music."
