Dealing with being sick is never a fun task, especially when you need to look after the rest of the family as well. A pre-emptive strike against colds and flu is necessary for a less stressful flu season, and getting the whole family involved is a definite must.
“When cold and flu season is around the corner we tend to stock up on everything and anything that can make us feel better when we are sick, but looking after ourselves before we get sick is the most important thing you can do,” says Carla Yssel, brand manager for Linctagon. “Educating yourself on how to keep you and your family healthy, and what you should be doing and not doing is a necessity.”
Yssel provides the following 5 tips on how to make it through flu and cold season:
Wash your hands
We use our hands for almost everything – typing on our computers, opening and closing doors, shaking hands, pushing a trolley etc. These are the types of places that germs can be found and it is because of this that washing our hands regularly, or using a hand sanitiser should become common, everyday practice.
Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue
...And once you are finished be sure to throw the tissue away as soon as possible. There is no need to hang on to a dirty tissue – this is how germs can spread.
Get enough sleep
Not getting enough sleep can suppress your immune system functions, and your immune system is needed to help keep colds and flu at bay. So early nights are the key to keeping you healthy.
Eat healthy food and drink fluids
Getting enough vitamins from fresh fruit and vegetables helps to keep your immune system in tip top shape, and washing it down with water stops your body from becoming dehydrated.
