Mint is such a refreshing taste that many of us can be found reaching for a flavoured gum or sweet to freshen up our mouths.

But have you ever thought about how the herb itself can benefit your beauty routine? There’s minty body washes out there, but what we’re talking about is using the leaves themselves and incorporating them into the way you look after your skin.

Spot treatment

Mint naturally boasts salicylic acid, an ingredient found in many acne treatments. To save yourself some money, make your own concoction for spots by grinding mint leaves with a little water – or rose water if you have it for an extra luxurious touch! Apply onto the affected areas and leave for up to 20 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

To remove dirt that causes spots, simply soak mint leaves in hot water and use the brewed water as a cleanser once it’s cooled – just make sure you take your make-up off first and strain the leaves before applying!

Fancy feet

Like above, you can soak mint leaves in hot water and dip your feet in for a calming, and natural, foot wash. Not only will the aromatic scent relax you but it will also leave your tootsies feeling refreshed and clean.

You can add a little mint water to your foot cream too and apply afterwards to keep skin – especially areas like your heels – nourished.

Refresh your eyes

Had a bad night’s sleep or simply suffering after a heavy night out? Mint can help! To give your peepers an awake look, use the mint and rose water mixture – equal amounts of each – and let the liquid cool. Once at a refreshing temperature, dip cotton wool buds into the fragrant water, strain any excess liquid and rest the cotton over your eyes for a few minutes. You’ll immediately feel the difference and, fingers crossed, it should lighten up any dull skin caused by lack of shut eye!
