Charcoal has recently increased in popularity in the beauty industry thanks to teeth whitening powders and face masks. But did you know you can also use it on your hair? The lightweight, black residue can work wonders on tired locks, with experts running through the benefits of this simple element.
Karen Thomson, owner of KAM Hair and Body Spa, told Cover Media: “Charcoal has many beauty benefits, not only for your skin but also for your hair. Using a charcoal shampoo is great to get rid of any product build up, toxins and excess oil and will give your scalp a really good, deep clean. The ingredient is also a great remedy to relieve the scalp from a variety of scalp conditions including dandruff, redness and itching.” HASK Purifying Charcoal Shampoo is a good option, or you can even make your own at home.
“If you don’t want to go out and buy a charcoal shampoo, you can make your own at home by adding a teaspoon of activated charcoal into your shampoo,” Neil Barton, Goldwell Ambassador and Owner of Neil Barton Hairdressing, added to Cover Media. “Another great thing about activated charcoal is that it adds volume to the hair, as it removes dirt and oil from the hair, allowing it to feel lighter and more voluminous.”
Charcoal can also be a good option if you suffer from dandruff as Philip Bell, Artistic Director at ISHOKA Hair and Beauty, explained. “Introducing charcoal into your hair care routine is brilliant if you suffer from dandruff or an itchy and oily scalp.
“The charcoal works to purify and extract toxins that reduce the chance of dandruff whilst removing excess oils and soothes any redness. The results will be noticeable after one or two uses.”
