Tips for first time party hosts

If you’ve never hosted a large of number of guests, the thought of doing it alone may make you feel uneasy. Here’s how to get it right for newbies

Welcome drinks and snacks

That awkward silence that always happens when your guests have nothing to eat or drink is what you should avoid. Upon arrival, make sure you’ve prepared nibbles and welcome drinks and music to entertain your guests. This is a great way of starting a party.

In order to get people to come back to your house, strike up conversations that’ll help you connect with all of them. Believe or not, your guests are okay, so don’t stress too much. They’ll sure appreciate you taking a few minutes to chat and share a drink with them.

Be welcoming

Plan your hosting with this in mind; ‘Mi casa Es Su Casa’. If your guests feel at home, the less work you’ll have to put in to make them feel welcomed and comfortable. Upon arrival take them on a tour of the house if they’ve never visited you before, that way they won’t have to bother you asking for help. Tell them to feel at home; and allow them to get up and get what they need. Fussing can sometimes be seen as controlling, so relax.

Ask if they have any allergies

Hosting usually comes with a feast and as tasty as your dishes may be, some of your guests may be allergic to some of the ingredients. So, the best way to avoid having to rush to the emergency room is to ask your guests to inform you if they’re allergic to certain foods before dishing out.

Know your intention

When you invite people to your home, there’s certainly a reason why. If you know what your event is intended for then the planning should be a breeze.
