Tshego Manche On Her Popular Fashion Label, La Manche

Known for her exquisite taste in style, we speak to Tshego Manche about all things fashion.        Screen Shot 2017-02-20 at 12.22.17 PM What inspired you to start La Manche? As cliché as this may sound, it’s my family who gave me the idea. They’ve always taken pride in how they look and what they wear. Fashion and style had always been a part of my upbringing, I remember the four of us (mom, dad, my sister and I) would coordinate outfits when we go out. What actually cemented the love for fashion and the retail business is when I used to work for a shop called Pulsate in my first year of varsity, that allowed me to understand the business of fashion and what women want in their clothes.

How do you keep your brand relevant to the market? Being in fashion requires you to keep abreast of trends yet keeping your own uniqueness to the brand. La Manche continues to aim to stay relevant by being consistent in our service offering and giving women what they want.

Tell us more about some of the celebrities you’ve dressed?

When I started back in Dec 2012, I actually would've never thought we would dress all the people we have to date. You know sometimes a dream becomes more than you can entirely imagine. It’s been amazing to have dressed all women in walks of life and some celebrities such as Zizo Beda, Boity, Khanya Mkangisa, Bonang, Noma Gigaba, Nandi Ngoma, Khanyi Mbau, Dj Zinhle, Tumi Voster, Lalla Hiriyama, Nomuzi Mabena, Mbali Nkosi, Nina Hastie, Ayanda Thabethe and have worked with TV shows such as Top Billing, Vuzu, Trend SA, Selimatunzi, BET A-list, to name a few.

Who are some of your favourite celebrities to dress and why? That’s a tricky one, I actually love to see how the women fit in La Manche with their own personality; it’s amazing to watch. I also love working with Lesego Kgosimolao as a stylist to the celebrities because of how he understands our brand and the celebrity, he pairs the two majestically.

Describe a La Manche woman. She is stylish, loves textured silhouettes, and is sexy yet sophisticated.

What’s the fashion piece that every woman should have in her closet?

The La Manche three-piece power suit, it’s amazing because it says power in the workplace and every avenue; you can mix and match the three pieces with every other staple item in your closet. Oh and it’s also made custom to your body so that’s amazing.
