#WCW: Dineo Moeketsi

Dineo has been nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for the 2017 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards to be held in Lagos Nigeria in March. There’s more to our February 2017 cover star. Here are some interesting facts about the actress. Screen Shot 2017-02-22 at 10.29.40 AM About her role as Kea on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen: “The thing about The Queen is that it shows audiences how much range I have as an actress. People have seen me here and there; Kea proves how serious I am and is transition for me to be taken seriously too. I feel with some of the scenes we’ve filmed people now want to apologise for ever having a question mark over my acting.” Kea almost didn’t happen: “Initially Shona ran me down the characters and at first suggested I play his daughter, Amu now played by Natasha Thahane, but that didn’t work out. I almost didn’t get to be part of the show and that would have been my fifth and final try with the Fergusons I promised myself. Kea was created and originally she was only meant to be a cameo. Shona recommended I audition and fortunately they were impressed and decided to expand the character’s storyline after that.” Her headspace right now: “I’m currently in a space where I’m admiring God’s work in my life. I don’t regret how things turn out. I tackle Kea with fearlessness, which I didn’t have before. When I was 21 years old and acted alongside Fana Mokoena in Soul City I felt like I was out of my depth. And everything I did after that made me scared. I’d doubt myself. I’m much more confident now in my work now.” About gaining confidence: “I had so many years of doubting myself. I had to come to a point where I needed to acknowledge my talent. There was a time where I believed I wasn’t gifted and waited for validation from others. Sadly I felt that way for a while. That was a strange period in my life. I was a very insecure girl; I worried about my looks, body, talent and so much more.” What she loves about her boyfriend of five years and rapper, Zothile, “Solo” Langa: “He’s mature. I’m truly blessed. In my eyes he’s the perfect partner. He isn’t freaked out by the illusion people have created of me that I’m high maintenance. Zothile and I are a team and that’s the core of our relationship.” Words of wisdom: “You have to push yourself sometimes and in turn you’ll be surprised at the beauty that comes back to you. This mentality is working for me.”
