In support of #StopRacismPretoriaGirlsHigh, we asked the TL staff and you, our readers, to share what you love most about your natural hair.
Zethu Zulu - TRUE LOVE Copy editor
I love my natural hair because it grows this way, and as such, it forms a big part of my identity. Yes, I am not my hair, but without it, I feel incomplete.
Rose Modise - TRUE LOVE online content producer
I love my natural hair because like me, you can put it through anything - braid it, weave it, straighten it, wear it up or down and it will always remain true and return to its original kinky curly form. It's the one thing that makes me stand out and represents who I am as a black woman.
Nhlakanipho Nhlapo - TRUE LOVE Archivist
I love my natural hair because it's a reflection of who I am culturally and as an African. Being black and being proud also shines through from how I wear my hair. If people of different races can wear their own natural hair proudly I don’t see how I can struggle to embrace my own and not rock it the best way I feel comfortable. I love my hair because it is so much easier to maintain and it does not even limit me from styling it.
Jessica Ramoshaba - TRUE LOVE fashion editor
I love my hair because that's how God made it. We are all made different and we shouldn’t have to explain that.
Amanda Ndlangisa - TRUE LOVE digital editor
I love my natural because I feel most beautiful in it. It is who I am and is part of my history. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Sisonke Labase - TRUE LOVE Journalist
I love my hair it keeps me authentic. I used to relax it because I wanted to conform until I got to a point to where I cut my hair and went back to my Afro and later locks, which I love.
Nthabiseng Mofokeng - TRUE LOVE editorial assistant
I love my hair because it's natural and easy to maintain.
Sibongile Nxumalo - TRUE LOVE reader
Natural hair means less chemicals on the scalp. My hair grows and glows.
Molebogeng Sikoe - TRUE LOVE reader
I just love my natural hair because it is mine!
Annah Ndweni - TRUE LOVE reader
I love mine because it's black and rich.
Pati Tshepe - TRUE LOVE reader
I love everything about my natural hair. I've left it this way all my life and I love it. I couldn't care less about anyone who has a problem with my hair.
