Lipstick plays an important part in your facial make-up, just like your eyebrows. True Love’s beauty editor, Lerato Seuoe, shares tips on how to look cute and let your lips do the talking with dark lipstick.
Keep your make-up to the minimal
A dark lip pairs well with a subtle and natural finish on the rest of the face, this allows the lip to get the attention it deserves. Even out your complexion with foundation and concealer. Sweep neutral shades over the eye area and coat your lashes with a few layers of mascara.
Dark lipstick for every skin tone
Darker skin tones are at an advantage, believe it or not, everything from dark browns, dark berries, plums and reds suit our tones very well. But fairer complexions are not left out as dark, bold lipsticks work well on every skin tone.
Dark lip colours works well with a variety of fashion looks too. “You don’t have to stress if it will go well with your office attire or evening outfits. You can have that different beautiful lip you always admired,” Lerato says.
She warns that exposure to the August winds might damage your lips. “Always make sure your lips are well moisturised with a nourishing lip balm before applying a dark lip colour. Also keep in mind to always use a lip liner before applying the lipstick, this will keep the colour in place.”
Dos and Don’ts to rocking a dark lipstick:
DOs
Keep the rest of your look simple.
Avoid looking vampy.
-DONTs
Don’t let your lip colour run.
Retouch often, especially with creamy textures, as they disappear quicker.
Stain your teeth. Always check to see if the lip colour has stained them.
