The Orange Is the New Black actress is never short of glamorous while in the spotlight and follows some unusual beauty routines to achieve her glowing facade.

Quizzed by Us Weekly's Stylish on whether the rumour she uses infants' hair wash on her skin is true, Laverne smiled, "I do - after all these years! If it's gentle enough for a baby, it's gentle enough for your face! I'll use a wipe to take my make-up off and then I'll use baby shampoo to wash and then moisturise."

A smooth, flawless base is the key to a great beauty look, Laverne advises, and she urges people to take care of their skin as cosmetics can only do so much to improve texture.

To nail the perfect shade of foundation, the star's make-up artist Deja Smith mixes several tones together, with Laverne noting, "It's all about dimension."

The 45-year-old also touched upon her tresses, joking she could talk about wigs all day.

"The fun thing about wigs is that you can change your look really, really quickly," she gushed. "It's the about the quality of the hair. If you're doing human hair like I would do, you need to go for the best, virgin hair whenever possible. If it's dyed make sure it's not overly processed in the dying because it's going to fry the hair."

Laverne favours a dark root for "realness" and relies on her colourist to help add depth to her hair.

But earlier this year (17), fans were given a glimpse at her natural locks, complete with "kink and curl". Posing in a series of photos with her untamed tresses on display, she wrote on Instagram, "I usually opt for protective styles, wigs, and hair pieces for my everyday styles. But back in January when we did this shoot, this is the look I was most excited about."
