But, with just a few changes to your make-up regime, you can ensure your lipstick stays in place for the entirety of an evening out.

Denise Rabor, International Make-up Artist and Founder of WOW Beauty, says you should start by making sure your lips are in good condition. "Keep them nourished and moisturised by using a good lip balm," she advised, adding that you should exfoliate if you're prone to flaky lips.

"If I am doing lips that need to last, I create a base for the lipstick by either applying foundation to the lips or using one of the many lip primers that are available," Denise continued. "Next use a lip pencil ideally in a similar colour to your lipstick, to line and fill in your lips...this creates a perfect colour base."

Once your base is complete, apply the first coat of lipstick and blot. "Using a brush to apply your lipstick gives you more control," Denise added.

After you've got the first layer sorted, lightly powder your lips with translucent powder, as this helps your lipstick to set.

"Finally, apply your last coat of lipstick," Denise said. "Some lipsticks have really good staying power. Whether you opt for a matte, creamy or glossy finish if they are applied in the correct way your colour will stay put throughout the day."
