According to Essence, during an episode of The Talk which aired in 2020, the rapper had opened up about her struggles to conceive and said that this had taken an emotional toll on her.

“Obviously, I’ve talked about my struggle with getting pregnant and I didn’t talk about it for a long time because I felt shameful,” Eve told her co-hosts.

“As a woman, you just think things happen naturally and I felt like I was damaged. I felt like I was broken. I felt like, oh maybe I wasn’t good enough… it’s a very sad hurtful thing, but the more I held onto it the worse I actually felt about it about myself,” she added.

Although fertility issues are one of the reasons why some women only conceive in their 40s or later, one study has suggested that millennial women are choosing to delay having children.

According to Forbes, the average age of first-time mothers in America is now up from 21 to 26, while for fathers, it’s increased from 27 to 31.  This isn’t just within America, women in other developed countries are waiting too with the average first birth happening for new mothers at age 31.

The study revealed that financial considerations, health and career and life goals were at the top of the list for why women want to have children later in life.

However, according to Krugersdorp news, there are also disadvantages to making this decision. Some of the disadvantages include difficulties in conceiving, increased chances of a miscarriage, unlikely natural birth and increased chances of chromosomal disorders in the children.

Here are 5 advantages of giving birth after 35 according to the publication:

  • Mothers over 35 tend to be calmer
  • Older moms are usually in established and stable relationships
  • They have all the support they need
  • Financial stability means less stress during pregnancy
  • There’s often more time for the kids
