Former Expresso Show host Katlego Maboe’s ex-girlfriend, Monique Muller, has responded to the court ruling that “absolved” him of allegations of misconduct.
Muller’s response comes after Katlego posted a statement on Monday 31 January 2022 in which his publicist, Lerato Maleswena, reveals that their two-year-long legal battle had come to an end and the court had ruled in his favour.
“TV personality Mr. Katlego Maboe was absolved by the Magistrates Court against allegations of alleged misconduct, made by the former partner Ms. Monique Muller, in October 2020. The court agreed with the submission of a Point of a Limine from Maboe’s legal team, ruling that there were no grounds for obtaining the protection order.
“Furthermore, the court has not made a finding of acts of domestic violence that were allegedly perpetrated against Ms. Muller, and as such, the matter has been dismissed. This is a great victory for Mr. Maboe, who has maintained his innocence throughout the two-year ordeal,” the statement reads before it states how Maboe plans to pursue legal action against Muller’s brother Seth, Women for Change founder Sabrina Walter and the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).
“Maboe has a final harassment interdict granted against Seth Muller, who made damaging and unfounded allegations in support of Ms Muller’s claims. He is also pursuing legal action against Women for Change founder, Sabrina Walter, and SA Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) chairperson of the judges, Dr Janet van Eeden, in this regard. A charge of criminal defamation is pending against Sabrina Walter in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court for posting defamatory and untrue statements against Mr Maboe, which led to his removal as a SAFTA nominee in the category of Best TV Presenter. She is expected to appear in court soon,” the statement further reads.
However, Muller has come out to claim that Maboe and his publicist had been spreading a false narrative. Taking to her Instagram account, Muller posted a series of Stories where she shared her side of the story following the judgement.
“To set the record straight: As per agreement between the parties, there has been NO NEW acts of domestic violence since the application of the IPO. This is the correct outcome as per the court ruling,” she wrote before accusing Maboe and his team of lying on a public platform.
“I actually find it quite appalling that these people continue to lie on such a public platform when the official documents say something completely different. People have already put their careers on the line supporting these lies. And they just keep acting unethically. No worries, I won’t be making any statements. I’ll only be posting facts,” she concluded.
Muller also concluded by addressing a fan of Katlego’s who had called her bitter.
In 2020, the disgraced presenter was taken off air after a video circulated of him confessing to cheating on his Muller. She also accused him of giving her an STI. This also resulted in Maboe losing many of his other income streams.
Addressing this in the recent statement, Maleswena emphasised this and said that Maboe was attempting to recover from his loss.
“Upon the news of the allegations in 2020, Mr. Maboe has suffered devastating reputational damage, resulting in a loss of professional livelihood. This includes the cancellation of his contract with OUTsurance and a suspension from his long-term contract with SABC 3’s Expresso Morning Show. The loss of financial income has not been recovered since the start of the court battle.
