A gentle giant – this is how many people have described the late radio legend, Grant Shakoane, who passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to his colleague and friend, Tim Modise, Shakoane - who was affectionately known as Shebabadoo Shebaba - had been admitted to a Johannesburg hospital for a while before his passing.
“Our friend & big brother, the radio ‘gentle giant’ Grant Shakoane is in serious condition at one of the hospitals in Joburg. His wife informs me that he’s been in this battle for a while. Join me in praying for his recovery. We love you #GrantShakoane,” he wrote on Twitter last week.
On Thursday morning, he gave an update on Twitter and confirmed Shakoane’s passing.
“I’ve just learned from Wilson Nkosi that ‘the Gentle Giant’ Grant Shakoane has passed on. Like many of us and his friends, I’m saddened by the news. I extend my sympathies to Ausi Albertina & family. I wish you strength. Modimo a le fodise #RIPGrantShakoane ,” he wrote.
Many have taken to Twitter to share their fondest memories with the broadcaster and to send condolences to his family under the hashtag #RIPGrantShakoane.
