September is recognised as Heritage Month, and each year South Africans celebrate their cultures and patriotism.
Heritage Month and Heritage Day, which falls on 24 September, is meant to recognise our diversity and allow people to celebrate their cultures. South Africans commemorate this day through dress, song, written text and food, among other ways.
This year, in addition to showing off their traditional attires, we’ve been seeing celebrities share their cultural backgrounds and languages as well as poetry, song and dance.
These are our top Heritage Month moments of celebration from our favourite public figures:
"A proud Black Zulu and Pedi South African babe," actress Makgotso captions her Heritage Day post.
And quotes Lebo Mashile saying, "I will not live in boxes; They are not my home; Home is laughter; Home is rounded figures; Home is a sharpened mental weapon; To be wielded against foreigners of the spirit."
Pabi captions her post saying, "Heritage. noun- birthright, legacy. Our expression of this identity shows others what we value; it highlights our values and priorities. Makes one take pause and think deeply about what we choose to value and conserve and how."
