Prudence Sebalo, better known by her DJ name, Miss Pru, is not afraid to work hard in pursuit of her dreams. The 35-year-old DJ and producer studied her way into the music industry and honed her craft through mentorship and a willingness to learn. Now, with a new single celebrating her success so far and her own brand of shea butter expanding her business interests, she’s exploring her passion for grooming new talent and paying it forward.

Why did you start DJing?

I love music. I used to think I could dance, and I joined a dance group and got kicked out [chuckles]. I wanted to find something that involved music that I could do because I can’t dance and DJing was it. I did my research and I attended The South African Musical Conference for two years before I became a DJ just so I could find out more about it and the business side of things.
