Following M-net’s decision to excuse Somizi Mhlongo from his role as a judge on SA Idols in light of the abuse allegations levelled against him in 2021, some of his fans were worried that they’d never see him on their screens again.

However, Moja Love TV recently announced that the entertainer would be one of the hosts of their new reality dating show, Lovey Dovey, which will premiere in February.

Speaking to TRUELOVE, Somizi reveals he started shooting the show during his time off from Idols.

“I’ve never really left television and I find it weird when people say I’m about to be back on TV. I started working on Lovey Dovey immediately after Idols so I’ve never left television,” he says before explaining what the show is about.

Lovey Dovey is about finding love and eventually getting married. There’s 25 singles in one house and they get to connect and interact up until they find what they think is the right connection. Then they have to get married, whichever couple gets selected to win will then get married and live happily ever after. Plus they win half a million rands,” he says.

On what he looks forward to about returning to Idols, SomGaga says he didn’t miss much about being on the show but says he had used the time off the show to introspect and will be doing things differently.

“My spirituality has really gone a notch higher, and with that said, it has allowed me to see things differently, do things differently and respond to things differently,” he reveals.

“So a lot has changed but for the better,” he continues.

On what his 2022 looks like, Somizi says the list is endless.

“I’ll be doing a lot. Firstly, I’m shooting season 5 of Living the dream and I’m also working on a cooking show,” he says before revealing his venture into the fashion industry.

“I’ll also be on Idols of course but one thing I’m most excited about is the launch of my kiddies clothing range in April,” he tells TRUELOVE.

“I’m also going to be opening three pop-up restaurants in three provinces as of February, so there’s really a lot my friends can expect from me. The list is endless,” he concludes.
