Renowned chef, author and former editor of TRUELOVE, Dorah Sitole, 67, has sadly passed away following a short illness. She passed away on Sunday evening, but the news of her passing was made public on Monday morning.
Mam' Dorah, as she was affectionately known by her former colleagues at TRUELOVE, was one of South Africa's most celebrated chefs and had an accomplished career in print media. The news of her passing sent shockwaves through the country and tributes have been pouring in on social media.
In tribute to her legacy and the positive impact she made during her time as the Editor of TRUELOVE, we looked through our archives and found an Editor's Note that she had written; it was published in the January 2009 issue of TRUELOVE. In the note, Mam' Dorah encourages readers to face the new year with gratitude and to treat life as a gift - a message that many of us need to hear now more than ever.
"The beginning of a new year always gives us another chance to start over again. Only some of us are able to sustain and achieve the resolutions that felt so attainable on New Year’s Day. Granted, we may feel disappointed, but there is no point in being hard on ourselves; time is the scarcest resource we have and each year gone is one we will never experience again.
What we need is to face this year with renewed determination to stretch ourselves beyond our comfort zones, approach each day with a resolve to rise to new challenges, and to push our perceived limitations to new realms. Life is a gift and we have to treat it as such."
Rest in power Mam' Dorah!
