For Kenyan content creator Sheila King'ori, being on Honey TV's The Next Big Trender is an opportunity to show her fans how much work goes into creating the content they love. Sheila is a fashion, food and lifestyle content creator and the chief author and curator of www.pearlsandloaf.com, a lifestyle blog that she says started as a hobby and has now grown into one of the leading voices in Kenyan pop culture.
“I am overwhelmed by the recognition my content has gained over the years and I would love to showcase my creativity on a larger scale to connect with different audiences across the continent,” Sheila says.
We caught up with her to find out more about her busy life, what she enjoys most about social media, and what being on TNBT means for her brand.
What’s your favourite social media outlet? Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram?
It has to be Instagram. Mainly because pictures have a way of capturing and sharing a moment that words couldn’t describe.
In a caption, describe yourself.
Gracious, joyful and a lover of the fine things in life.
What do you think viewers will like about your brand, and what do you think is that special “je ne sais quois” you’ll be bringing to the show?
By letting the world see the raw cuts of my day-to-day life; I think viewers will appreciate the work and effort that goes into creating a successful lifestyle brand.
Who’s your favourite person on social media right now?
I recently started following Edwige Alamode (@edwigealamode) on Instagram and I don’t know why it took me so long to find her!
Which brand or person do you think the world is sleeping on and how do you see them eventually getting big?
The social influencing space, especially in Africa, is itself a rising star. The truth is, people do not buy goods and services. They buy relationships, stories and magic. Another personal favourite is Wunmi @wunmiig on Instagram. She has amazing fashion and lifestyle content.
