The story behind Shekinah's SAMAs red carpet look - and what a deep-dive into her Insta taught us

The 23-year-old singer and songwriter who hails from Durbs, was in the top six in Idols Season 8. Now she's a three time South African Music Awards winner, as she picked up statuettes for Best Female Performer, Best Album for Rose Gold and Best Newcomer this past weekend.

Her red carpet outfit was by Jozi designer Matte Nolim, who says "Sheks and I had minus four days to prepare; she's a very genuine young lady, we could also say transparent. This was our second time working together on the SAMAs; dressing her teaches me a lot about women.

"I made her a tailored dress out of an Italian suiting fabric, which I embellished with rose gold motifs of a beaded lace, which we had to cut out and hand sew onto the garment.

Our Insta deep-dive dissected...

Anyone who has watched the music video Suited knows that Shekinah has mad style.

Her Insta speaks to a unique aesthetic with a love for '90s-inspired 'millennial chic' items like fanny packs, hoops, Dr. Martens and oversized attire, which are key to her look.

Happy Sunday ... @portrayedby_ ??

But she's not just a rose gold fan, the star LOVES burgundy, maroon and purple. She often wears hats, faux fur jackets and dresses her lips and even her hair in these hues. If you look closely in her video Suited you will also spot many burgundy and maroon elements.

I couldn’t wear my new hair last night on tv ??
