Beyonce’s foundation has donated grants worth more than R160 000 to Black-owned businesses

The singer’s BeyGood organisation has teamed up with the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) to help those businesses suffering during the current global health crisis.

“The NAACP is proud to partner with BeyGood to help strengthen small businesses and to ensure economic empowerment for black businesses,” the organisation says in a statement.

“The challenges of Black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated, as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits due to damages and other small business needs,” the statement on the NAACP's website reads.

It comes after Beyonce’s charity donated $6 million (more than R100 million) to mental health wellness.

Beyoncé has just been honoured for her BeyGood initiative, through which she has raised money for multiple causes, including supporting young women in universities.

She has also launched a multi-year partnership with UNICEF to create BeyGood Burundi, which aims to bring safe water and sanitation to the small East African country.
