On her April cover issue of Vanity Fair Magazine, Reese Witherspoon says a lot of bad things happened to her — she was assaulted and harassed. She adds that the shame that projected on her was unreal.

The Big Little Lies star says she believes social media has helped people open up about their own experiences.

"Social media has created a new way for people to express themselves that I didn’t have. That’s the great strength in power and numbers. I think we have a lot of judgment and that’s unfortunate because we’re all tender-footed in these new times. We’re trying to find our identity," she tells Vanity Fair.

She hopes that speaking out will help others.
