This is what one reader had to say:
Well I LOVE the other woman in my house! Like you, I battle to come up with the correct way of referring to her, housekeeper sounds too formal; char, ousie, maid all sound outdated and a bit too derogatory in my opinion!
So I refer to her as ‘my Sarah’. She refers to us as Ma, Sir and Sister (and my parents are Granny and Granpa).
She has been with us for nearly 15 years; she comes around twice a week and I literally have to chase her out at the end of the day. My house is beautifully clean and tidy when I get home and she’s always there with a big smile on her face.
Luckily we don’t have any language barriers and she always leaves me notes on the fridge when I need to buy things that have run out.
I often come home and her and my husband are in the kitchen, drinking coffee having a healthy debate about politics, while solving the world’s problems!
She house sits when we go away for the odd weekend and looks after my animals (who she loves dearly and who love her back).
But all that aside, she is part of the family and we don’t know what we would do without her!
