10 ways to transform your home

1. Pattern

Geometric patterns make a contemporary statement, even when used in small quantities. Add geometric scatters, or use wallpaper on one wall or a cupboard to set any interior apart. Geometric patterns work well in neutral interiors, whether minimalist, industrial or classical.

2. A pop of colour

A predictable white or beige interior, will look brand new with a pop of colour. Bold colour blocking is the secret, rather than mix and matching. On trend colours are nectarine orange, lemon yellow, apple green, teal or fuchsia pink.

3. Repetition

Ornaments have more impact when grouped together, turning them into a focal point.

4. Contemporary accessories

Many people opt for timeless colours and designs when choosing large furniture pieces. That is a safe way to ensure you can change the style of a room, without having to rebuy furniture. Splash on smaller, contemporary décor accessories for a new look.

5. A focal point

Functionality is not quite enough to create a new look. Choose a beautiful painting or a brightly upholstered chair to add personality to a room.

6. Give old furniture new life

Classical lines are timeless, but repaint or reupholster your ball-and-claw couch to turn it into something more than just a sentimental hand-me-down.

7. New lampshades

Replace unsightly contractor lights with something that oozes personality. Metallic and industrial lamps are stealing the show at the moment. Use repetition for extra impact.

8. Add fresh flowers or pot plants

This quick fix is an old trick that stylist rely on. A bunch of flowers or a pot plant is the final touch of any interior. Somehow plants give warmth and liven up any room. Choose interesting pots or vases and plants that compliment your style.

9. Rearrange your furniture

Even the most beautifully decorated rooms can lose its charm after a few months. A change is as good as a holiday, so rearrange your furniture when you need a modification.

10. A conversation piece

Choose at least one item for a room that will add a surprise element – something quirky, brightly coloured or different. Something intriguing!
