We know many cases of overprotective brothers, fathers and scary uncles who chase away potential suitors by their intimidating demeanour.
But this grandfathers’ cheeky list of ‘boyfriend rules’ for his granddaughter’s future beau takes the cake and hilarious!
Can you imagine uTatomkhulu being this specific about the kind of man he wants you to date?
This one was definitely not afraid to set the standard.
21-year old Amie McHugh says she has always been very close with her granddad William, whom she says has always been there for her.
“He lives a two-minute walk away so I get to see him nearly every day,” she said on Twitter.
She loves sharing her grandfather with her followers on social media and in one picture she posted of him she wrote: “heart and soul” complete with heart emojis in case there was any confusion.
Which is why she was amused when he sent her a list of expectations of her potential boyfriend.
She shared the list with her family and her Twitter followers, and the checklist of his demands quickly went viral. It reads...
10 boyfriend rules by grandpa William
Rule 1: He must be RC [Roman Catholic]
Rule 2: He must be [a] Celtic supporter
Rule 3: He must be working
Rule 4: I must like him
Rule 5: He must like me
Rule 6: He must be financially well off
Rule 7: He must never look at another girl while in this relationship
Rule 8: He must be very kind
Rule 9: He must have a car
Rule 10: Whenever in my company he must offer to pay bill
Amie and her grandfather clearly share a mutual love for the Scottish soccer team as they are seen striking a pose in their soccer jerseys.
He also said the guy she dates must be working, be financially well off and have his own car and he clearly doesn’t want to have to deal with someone he dislikes.
But the one rule that got most people talking is number ten, where he says the guy must always offer to pay the bill whenever in his company.
“I keep rereading this. I’m so in love with him, commented one, while another said: “I love how he’s got to pay for your grandpa, too. Very, very important.”
Another one clearly entertained wrote: “Is he wanting his dinner paid for ha.”
Some of Amie's followers said they could relate because they also have adorable protective family members.
One Twitter user commented: "The first four rules would defo be ma granda for anybody."
Ma da and grampa always ask two same questions when I'm seeing some boy. 1. Who does he support? 2. Is he English? ??— Lau Ree (@mandelmjolk) February 17, 2019
"This is papa so much," joked one, while another admitted: "that's me with my daughter. She never listens though."
In the end of the list grandpa William wrote, “ok that’s so so far…," implying that the list could possibly be longer.
Dating is already so hard and Amie's grandfather is clearly not about to make it any easier.
One Twitter user joked: “you’re are going to be single forever.”
