What’s your favourite SA saying?

Lili posted a question on Facebook  asking our loyal readers to post their favourite SA saying in any language.

I love the phrase ‘Moet nie van my bek ‘n vis cafe maak nie,’ especially since Afrikaans is such an expressive language. Saying ‘Don’t speak while I’m speaking ‘ just doesn’t have the same effect, do you agree?

Anyway, here are some comments our readers made:

Some were profound:

Antionette: Geld grooi nie aan bome nie.

Ayanda: Umntu ngumntu ngabantu

Karabo: A leopard never changes its spots.

Endronica: Al dra ‘n aap ‘n goue ring hy bly nogaltyd ‘n lielike ding!

Zanele: uThixo uyazi

Others didn’t even need words to be profound:

Mamikie: Yoh! Yoh! Yoh!

Lynette: Van waar geasie? Eish!

Shamila: Oooee!

Thandiwe: Sharp

Julia: Yebo

Charnelle: Ja nee...

While the rest, just said what was on their minds:

Mpumelelo: Is kak maar is reg.

Salome: Nou-pra-jy

Mapula: Tot Piet kom

Eloise: Baie swaar

Melanie: Words fail me

Carina: Lets braai!
