The majority of South Africa’s top four political parties have released their manifestos in the past few months, many of the parties having dedicated parts of their promises to the betterment of women in the country who remain marginalised.

In January the ruling party, the ANC, was the first to release its manifesto, followed by the Economic Freedom Fighters at the beginning of February and the DA close to the end of February. The Inkatha Freedom Party is scheduled to release its manifesto in March ahead of the national elections in May.

When it comes to addressing issues facing women in the country, the parties have had much to say about how they plan to address them. Ahead of the elections, we look at how many women are present in each party’s top most executive leaders. Spoiler alert, the highest number is three.
