Is 2020 the year we will all use biodegradable glitter in our beauty products?

Glitter in beauty products can be gorgeous, however, it's not environmentally friendly.

UK-based beauty entrepreneur Stacy Morris has added to the resilient lip gloss trend by making homemade lip glosses with biodegradable glitter.

Biodegradable glitter breaks down over time and is safer for the environment than traditional cosmetic glitter. Her lip glosses are also vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free.

Stacy's biodegradable product joins a global surge of ethical beauty products.

In Brazil, a local architect, Frances Sansao, started making and selling a biodegradable face glitter and infiltrated the beauty sphere with a goal to make people aware of the amount of plastic used in makeup glitter for events, such as the Rio carnival.

"I love carnival but it generates a lot of trash. People use a lot of disposable cups, they throw a lot of things on the street like glitter, costumes. People buy a lot of plastic because it's cheap. Our consumption culture during carnival is not really environmentally friendly," says Frances.

She develops the face glitter with colourful glitter out of algae and mica.
