Gauteng bride's R2 million wedding - she wears a R150 000 dress, gets a Porsche and a cash gift of R500 000

Most women can only imagine what it feels like to have an opulent wedding with a custom designer dress, a dreamy venue, a Rolls Royce for the groom, a Hummer Limousine for the bridal party, a live band, and big-ticket gifts.

But not Happy Simelane, a network marketer and businesswoman from Vosloorus in the East Rand. She recently woke up to her real-life dream wedding, and will have another wedding in December. But for now here are the deets on the recent wedding.

While, unlike the fictionary princess, Cinderella, she had a pair of Jimmy Choo heels instead of glass slippers, everything else about Happy's wedding mirrored all things that fairytales are made of, maybe even better. Cinderella never got a Porsche for her wedding after all!

Now that she’s finally caught her breath after the nuptials, two weekends ago, the new bride is ready to chat to us about her big day that was nothing short of magical, lavish and oh so romantic.

She’s still blissful and shares a short clip of her new husband, Mduduzi Simelane’s vows to her on the day.

“I promised you that I would take your heart and put it very close to my heart a few years ago. That still stands… I will never let you down,” he said.

And judging from the wedding itself, this couple did not disappoint each other or the guests as they put together a flawless event which cost them just over R1.1 million.

The two-day affair included a white wedding and traditional wedding at Happy’s home in Vosloorus where she wore several outfits throughout the day.

Her white dress was a lush 3 in 1 ensemble covered in hundreds of pearls by Vonani Designs – and unsurprisingly, it came with a price tag of R150 000. The bride couldn’t be happier with her purchase.

She gushes, “Happiness is something else, you can’t fake it. My wedding day was everything I’ve ever dreamt of.”

What's more, Mduduzi surprised her with a R900 000 Porsche convertible, bringing the total spend for the wedding to R2 million.

“When I saw the Porsche driving into the venue and he said, ‘I have a small gift from me and my family’, I thought he was joking. I felt weak at the knees," she says.

Money wasn’t just going out at this wedding, it also came in, most notably when Happy’s friends and business partners gifted her with R500 000 for the big day.

Does the couple have any qualms about spending such a hefty sum, which could buy a decent home and vehicle, on a weekend wedding celebration?

Not at all, Happy says, they already have more than enough homes and luxury cars, so they wanted to share their special day (and a piece of their opulent lives) with their friends and loved ones. “We're having another wedding in December where I will be officially welcomed to my husband's family. We'll do the honeymoon in January,” Happy says.

We’re totally for it and we've secured an invite to the event this time around!
