Emily in Paris was created by Darren star, who is known for the HBO series, Sex and the City.

That show became iconic for its fashion, in a large part due to the work of costume designer Patricia Field. Patricia and Darren collaborated again for this 2020 show, and their success is evident from the very first episode.

For this list, we’ll be counting down the best looks from this fashionable Netflix show with an Instagram account dedicated to its memorable looks.

10: Emily’s Eiffel Tower print top

When Emily (Lily Collins) shows up for her first day at the office, she wears a button-up top printed with a Parisian scene. It’s a tongue-in-cheek reference to her starry-eyed optimism about the city of lights.

9: Sylvie’s green dress

Emily’s Parisian boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), is the epitome of elegant French style. Patricia Field said the character was the “expression of classic French chic.” While her simple office looks are enviable, this green asymmetric Alexandre Vauthier dress she wears for a red carpet event is the most stunning outfit she wears on the show.

8: Emily’s structural white dress

In the penultimate episode of season 1, Emily attends a benefit to raise money for the American friends of the Louvre (AFL) and convinces designer Pierre Cadault to donate a dress for the charity auction. Behind the scenes, the white gown was actually designed by Stephane Rolland.

7: Emily’s yellow maxi skirt and top

The yellow printed ensemble looks like a dress because it’s paired with a thick black belt. Without the belt, the outfit would be a bit too breezy for Parisian fashion, but the darker element anchors the sunny look.

6: Camille’s sheer polka dot top

Camille represents the effortlessly cool French girl that Americans desperately want to epitomise.

5: Emily’s lilac combo

This multicolour ensemble has a focus on light purple, which she pairs with leather boots in the same shade.

4: Emily’s hot pink jacket

This fuscia jacket by Kenzo compliments the rosy blooms Emily purchases when she meets Camille for the first time (and is later scene a few more times on the show). The coat is a wool cashmere blend that is probably just the thing for a chilly morning in Paris.

3: Emily’s black tulle gown

Many are making comparisons to Emily’s wardrobe and the clothes worn by Carrie Bradshaw in SATC, particularly the two-part which takes place in Paris. Perhaps the most reminiscent outfit is this voluminous tulle dress that Emily wears to an event in the show’s second episode. Patricia Field even acknowledged that this look was a direct reference, saying; “Emily’s black tulle look is an homage to Carrie’s tulle skirt in the series finale of Sex and the City.”

2: Emily’s plaid suit and red beret

The plaid suit by Veronica Beard is paired with a Chanel lamb skin flap bag. She tops it off with a classic French style red beret. Patricia revealed that as Emily settles in to Paris, she mixes in a bit of French chic to her wardrobe.

1: Emily’s black off-the-shoulder dress

In the show’s sixth episode, Emily attends the ballet. Her classic black dress features a lot of volume and is paired with a dainty headpiece that gives the look a unique spin. For this scene, the costume designer wanted to pay a tribute to silver screen legend Audrey Hepburn because of actress Lily Collins’ resemblance to her.
